STEM Bridge Program

Massachusetts community college grads can apply for STEM starter academy bridge program

The STEM Starter Academy Bridge Program is free program is available to ALL Massachusetts community college associate degree STEM graduates who have been accepted to transfer to UMass Lowell for the Fall 2019 semester.

This six-week program can accommodate up to 20 STEM students. Students will take a 3-credit course in Principles of Cell and Molecular Biology for FREE that will support their transition and provide them with needed credits for their major.

The course covers the basic topics in cell and molecular biology including structures of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids, structure of DNA and its replication and repair, transcription, and cell-cell communication. Class takes place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 8 – Aug. 15, 2019, from 11 a.m. – 1:20 p.m. on the UMass Lowell campus.

Students will also participate in free targeted academic support, community building activities, and a workshop that introduces students to resources available at UMass Lowell.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applications must be received by Saturday, June 1, 2019.
  • Preference will be given to Massachusetts community college graduates who have completed an associate degree in Computer Science, Life Sciences, Mathematics, or Physical Sciences.
  • Applicants must be accepted as a STEM major to UMass Lowell for the Fall 2019 semester.
