Astronomical Observatory

Autism Research & Education

The multidisciplinary Center for Computer Machine/Human Intelligence, Networking & Distributed Systems is dedicated to research, training and education to advance the analytical, experimental and operational aspect of computer hardware and software and information technologies that have potential influence on the acquisition, management and storage of knowledge and "big data" knowledge extraction, data engineering and services, and machine/human computational intelligence.

Data Analytics

The High-Performance Data Analytics (HPDA) Lab exploits emerging hardware — such as Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), high-end CPU and Solid-State Drive (SSD) — to build high-performance systems for graph computing, machine learning, computational omics, numerical simulation and cloud computing.

Electric Car & Energy Conversion

The primary focus of the Center for Electric Car & Energy Conversion is application of renewable energy in roof-top residential, industrial and utility-interactive environments.

Emerging Technologies to Protect Soliders 

Harnessing Emerging Research Opportunities to Empower Soldier or HEROES is a joint research and development initiative of UMass Lowell and the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC). Its aim is to tap the research assets, people and facilities of both organizations to improve the survivability and protection of U.S. troops.

Materials Characterization

Materials Characterization Lab is the university's central instrumentation facility for the characterization of materials. It is available to the entire UMass Lowell research community and industrial collaborators.

Nanomanufacturing

The Nanomanufacturing Center at UMass Lowell focuses on basic nanomanufacturing research, collaborative research with industry and education of the future workforce that enables advanced manufacturing and commercialization of nanotechnology products.

Neuroscience

Photonics

Population Health

The Boston Puerto Rican Health Study at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is one of ten Centers for Population Health and Health Disparities (CPHHD) funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to address disparities and inequities in the prevalence and outcomes of disease.

Protective Fabrics

Prof. Yongwoo Lee has recently worked on development of a protective fabrics utilizing highly selective self-decontaminating materials for comprehensive protection against chemical attacks.
